This year’s National Arts Festival was a virtual celebration of the South African arts and featured local Ceres band, Basic Aim, who joined performing artists from around the country on the online platform. With funding from Perdekraal East Wind Farm this group of talented musicians, were able to add their performance to the virtual festival platform.

Aminah Booysen, at Graslaagte Primary School, is one of 17 Reading Assistants, who haven taken up the opportunity to study teaching with the assistance of the Jeffreys Bay Wind Farm’s education bursary programme, put in place specifically for these reading assistants. The bursaries are education focused, designed to foster an interest in the teaching occupation whilst helping to address the national shortage of quality educational practitioners.

Perdekraal East Wind Farm, in the Western Cape’s Witzenberg Municipality, has received its main transformer, via road transportation from Pretoria, marking another important milestone in its construction process. This 500MVA mega transformer was locally manufactured in South Africa, which has added to Perdekraal East Wind Farm’s already high local content percentage, as the turbine towers are also locally manufactured. Fifteen Early Childhood Development (ECD) Practitioners from rural Eastern Cape, are forging ahead with their ECD Level 4 Training Programme, with the help of innovation, so that they can successfully graduate. This is despite reports that many childhood development centres are struggling during this time and are threatened with closure as most practitioners are not receiving income during the COVID-19 lockdown. A community bursary recipient, Amaarah Basadien, from the Eastern Cape, set off at the beginning of the year to take on the uber-challenging task of studying for an Actuarial Science Degree, at the University of Cape Town. Armed with a curious mind, an ability to dream and the will to work hard to achieve great things, she is half-way through her first year and coming to terms with a very different year of studying than she ever imagined.
