Thornhill, Eastern Cape
A cohort of Early Childhood Development (ECD) Practitioners from the Kouga Local Municipal area, received their National Diploma Certificates this past week, at a graduation ceremony which took place at the Thornhill Combined School. Practitioners proudly accepted their certificates at the event and spoke of the broad benefits of studying and the impact it has already has on their teaching abilities. (more…)

With the help of e-technology, schools in the Namakwa District are embracing 21st century e-learning, in support of the District Department of Education’s strategy to roll-out digital technology in local high schools.  Hence, chalk boards are making way for electronic Smart Boards, bringing improved skills to teachers and enhancing the educational environments for improved learning, especially in STEM subjects, including Mathematics, Physics and Science. A ribbon cutting ceremony that took place at the Thornhill community, in the Eastern Cape, marked the re-opening of Mkhuseli Koliti Crèche.  The event was attended by community members, funders, partners, officials, parents, school staff and nearly 100 very excited young children, to mark this special occasion.  (more…)

A community health project, born from a collaboration, took place in Loeriesfontein successfully helping hundreds of community members with their dental and ophthalmology needs.  The project, which ran at the end of last year, also aimed to promote healthy living in the community and provided COVID-19 awareness. Isolated communities that are cut off from a source of clean water, are especially vulnerable in the fight against Covid-19.  Realising this truth, Cookhouse Wind Farm has partnered with ‘Gift of the Givers’ to provide relief in the form of access to drinking water, to the town of Adelaide, Red Location, in the rural Eastern Cape. A shared vision to bring smiles to over 1 000 children in the Witzenberg area warmed the hearts of community members, local NGOs, and other partners alike who believe that a hungry child can’t thrive. Perdekraal East Wind Farm’s ‘1000 Smiles’ campaign, was the brainchild of one of the local NGOs, Witz Events Network, who requested funds and assistance to make this dream a reality. (more…)

Kangnas Wind Farm’s Bursary recipient, Leanne Schmidt, strongly believes that young people should view agriculture as a cornerstone in communities’ well-being and consider it as a career option. She successfully completed her Bachelor Degree: Agricultural Management, passing with distinctions at the end 2020, despite the challenges of COVID, working and caring for her two toddlers. (more…)

Ms Heidi von Caeus, the much-loved Arts, Crafts and Entrepreneurial Skills Teacher at L.R. Schmidt Primary School in Genadendal, close to Greyton, is a firm believer in the value of practical classes and skills training at schools, which have been highlighted by the impact of COVID-19 on her learners and their families.
