NEW MATHS TEACHER BRINGS ENTHUSIASM AND EXPERIENCE TO LOERIESFONTEIN

Eddie Sampson has been welcomed as the new Maths and Science teacher at Loeriesfontein High School, an appointment that the school and community hopes will help to not only improve academic results in these subjects, but also to increase the number of learners taking pure maths in Grade 10 to Grade 12 in the community.
“We wanted to improve marks in Mathematics and Sciences to increase the number of learners taking pure maths in the FET phase.  We only have one departmental teacher who could teach Mathematics, making it impossible for her to teach Mathematics for Grades 10 to 12,” said Zelda Vos, Principal of Loeriesfontein High School.
Vos added saying, “Mathematics is such a vital subject and having a qualified teacher is really important. Mathematics is important for many careers in life and it is always good to have passed Grade 12 mathematics, as it opens up opportunities for studying further in many more careers.”
The teaching post has been funded by Loeriesfontein Wind Farm, as part of their Socio Economic Development programme, which has a strong focus on education and more specifically teacher funding, skills training, as well as literacy.
Mr. Sampson started at the high school in September 2020, bringing two decades of experience to the post, as well as the conviction to make a difference in the lives of learners.
“Being a teacher gives you the opportunity to create an impact. You can teach learners who will be future change makers in the community. I believe Maths and Science are two of the most important subjects,” concluded Mr. Sampson.
