Role Overview: Drawing on a sound general understanding of the SA wind industry, and an interest in issues of energy access and emergent power supply shifts, the Programme Officer will expand the capacity of the national office to provide unique value to SAWEA members. This will include research, writing and public liaison. Operating within an environment of mutual trust and autonomy, the ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated and have a strong work ethic.
Key performance areas: desk-based research· writing· member liaison· public enquiries · support to SAWEA working groups · support to SAWEA CEO· lobbying and advocacy.
Requirements: Wind power or renewable energy at Honours-level· 3-5 years’ working experience at mid-management level· Proven understanding of issues relevant to the wind sector · General knowledge of SA RE Industry · Strong written and spoken communication skills · Strong analytical and influencing skills · Strong IT skills
Contract terms: 12-month fixed term contract· full-time appointment · Industry-comparable cost of employment @mid-management level· Location at SAWEA office in Rosebank, Johannesburg · occasional work-related travel.

Job Specifications (to be shared with shortlisted candidates only)
- Research, writing & member liaison
- Conduct desk-based research on contemporary wind-related topics
- Produce written resources in plain language format for online & print publication. Topics to cover the spectrum of technology, policy and investment.
- Support SAWEA’s work to influence SA Wind and RE policy development
- Commission external services as needed.
KPI: SAWEA is recognised as a trustworthy source of information on all matters relating to the Wind Industry in SA.
- Support to SAWEA working groups
- Undertaking minor research on themes aligned with SAWEA’s objectives
- Provide practical programmatic assistance e.g. data management, high-level event logistics
KPI: SAWEA working groups are supported to achieve their identified objectives.
- Support to the CEO
- Respond to routine member, public and partner enquiries
- Assist with fundraising, reporting and service provider liaison
- Strategic government and RE Industry liaison
- Contribute to building SAWEA’s profile within the South African Wind and RE sectors
- Promote public understanding of the value chain benefits of Wind power supply
Education/Skills/Experience/Expertise
- Tertiary education relating to wind power or renewable energy; or substantial knowledge of/experience in the industry e.g. 3-5 years’ working experience at mid-management level
- Insight into issues relevant to the wind sector in particular; the SA RE Industry generally
- Strong written and spoken communication
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong IT skills
- Good influencing skills
Contract Structure
- Full-time
- 12-month fixed term contract
- Gross salary: R500,000
- Location: The Renewable Energy Hub, Rosebank Johannesburg, with occasional travel as required.
