Thomas Roos

Senior Research Engineer, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

Thomas Roos is a Senior Research Engineer at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research or CSIR, in the Energy Centre located in the Smart Places Cluster. He holds a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Stellenbosch.

His 27-year research career at CSIR has been predominantly in the field of thermodynamics, heat transfer, turbomachinery and energy.

He has been involved in several national R&D roadmap processes:

His main professional interest currently is the economics of renewable hydrogen production in South Africa and the benefits it presents to the country. He has published and presented on this topic, and is involved in several projects developing the evidence base for this.
