Ronald Henry Marais has over the last 28 year contributed to the development of African power grid within South Africa and Southern African power grid
He graduated from the Witwatersrand Technikon and continued his studies at the Tshwane University of Technology. He has a BTech degree in electrical power engineering and is registered as a Professional Technologist at the Engineering Council of South Africa.
He currently heads the South Africa electricity power utility, Eskom, Transmission Strategy Grid Planning section. The key focus areas include strategic grid planning of the South African transmission power grid, Southern African energy strategic planning, and long-term transmission power system design and stakeholder relationship management. He participated in the South African Department of Energy renewable energy bid process and chaired the Southern African Power Pool Planning Sub-Committee.
Ronald Marais contributed to CIGRE C1 System Development and Economics as the Southern African Study Committee member (2008-2016), CIGRE C1 Special Reporter Paris (2018) and is on the CIRGRE C1 Strategic Advisor Management team (2016- currently)
