Mrs. Katherine Persson has spent her career of more than 15 year’s working on renewable energy project development in Southern and East Africa, and Europe. She has worked as an environmental expert, lender’s adviser, Project Manager, and is currently Managing Director at Windlab, where she manages a team of project professionals developing and implementing large renewable energy facilities in Southern and East Africa.
Windlab is a global renewable energy developer and IPP that has completed almost 1.1GW of renewable energy projects globally and has 7.7GW under development or in construction, including the world’s first utility-scale wind-PV-storage hybrid energy facility, Kennedy Energy Park. In Africa, Windlab has a portfolio of over 3GW wind and hybrid wind-PV-storage projects including one of Tanzania’s first utility-scale wind developments and the innovative Meru County Energy Park hybrid renewable energy facility, in Kenya. Katherine has been intimately involved in the development of the South African wind energy industry since REIPPPP Round 1, including two successful REIPPPP projects, totalling 230MW.
She has a keen interest in corporate social responsibility, corporate governance and the role of business in society. She is a proud African and a great believer in the broad-scale benefits of renewable energy. She currently serves on the Board of SAWEA (the South African Wind Energy Association). Katherine has a BSc (hons) and MSc from the University of Nottingham (UK) and an MBA from the University of Stellenbosch.
