As we enter the last quarter of 2020, we look back and reflect on how this unprecedented period of COVID-19 has affected us as an industry and our country’s economy, whilst also unpacking the recently issued Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP).
The RMIPPPP RFP was issued last week and the SAWEA office has consulted extensively with the members to ascertain the prospects for wind energy participation in this procurement round. It seems that the timelines, particularly the COD deadline, might be an issue for the wind sector, which may limit our ability to participate in this bidding round. We will be reaching out to the IPP Office to seek clarity on this issue.
As the economy and the wind energy industry is gearing up to contribute to rebuilding the economy in a post-COVID-19 era, we have taken the opportunity to document the impact of the pandemic on the Wind Energy Industry in a short report that has been published on the SAWEA website.
As an organisation, COVID-19 has impacted our ability to deliver a full Windaba this year. After considering several options, including postponing the event to the earlier months of 2021, we are very excited to announce that Windaba 2020 will be on a virtual platform this year, which you can read about in the news item below. This year was meant to be Windaba’s 10-year anniversary celebration, however we have decided to postpone the celebrations to Windaba 2021, as a physical event.
