Windaba Conference and Exhibition 2025
Windaba 2025, held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 21 to 23 October, marked a decisive moment for South Africa’s energy transition. Under the theme “Break the Gridlock: Wind for Growth!”, this year’s conference moved the national conversation beyond diagnosing challenges — toward unlocking practical steps, actionable solutions, and sector-wide alignment on unlocking grid capacity and accelerating wind energy investment.
Hosted by the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA), the 14th annual edition convened an influential mix of policymakers, investors, annual edition convened an influential mix of policymakers, investors, and global technical experts, OEMs, IPPs, community representatives, and global technical experts, OEMs, IPPs, community representatives, and global partners. Together, they examined the structural barriers slowing development and articulated a coordinated response aimed at strengthening South Africa’s energy security and industrial development pathway.
As Africa’s only locally owned, locally led wind-energy conference, Windaba 2025 reinforced its role as the sector’s central convening point — a space where policy signals are scrutinised, market opportunities are systematised, and collaboration is driven across public and private spheres. In partnership with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the event deepened continental and international alignment around grid reform, localisation, skills development, energy resilience, and community impact.
Crucially, this edition expanded the conversation beyond turbines and procurement cycles. Windaba 2025 highlighted the full value-chain influence of wind energy — from manufacturing and transmission readiness to socio-economic development, innovation, and climate commitments. The dialogues, commitments, and partnerships forged during the conference now form part of the sector’s collective push to accelerate implementation and ensure wind energy’s contributions are fully realised across Africa and beyond.
